Warm-Up Daily Grade
Word of the day! Conceptually illustrate the word displayed on the board. This is a daily warm-up. For the first 5 minutes of class, students draw what comes to mind when they recite the given word in their head. The following 2 minutes we use to discuss our drawings by randomly selecting students to give their ideas (using google number generator and the seat numbers).
This grade consists of 4 warm-ups. One word is given each day to be drawn in student sketchbook. One page per week. 1/4 a page for each word and each word is worth 25 points. Friday's are reserved for the Artist Spotlight and there is no warm-up word.
If a student is absent, the word of the day is written on the dry-erase board in class. It is also copied here on the website at the end of each week. These words are required to be drawn into sketchbook within the allotted time frame for a complete grade. The grade is recorded when sketchbooks are collected to be graded.
Vocabulary Daily Grade
The vocabulary term is a separate grade, however, it is always Wednesday's word of the day to also be drawn. The Vocabulary term must be written next to the drawing for that particular word in order to receive full credit for the weekly vocabulary grade.
If a student is absent, the term is written next to the word of the day on the dry-erase board in class. It is also copied here on the website at the end of each week. These terms are required to be drawn into sketchbook within the allotted time frame for a complete grade. The grade is recorded when sketchbooks are collected to be graded.
Artist Spotlight Daily Grade
This grade is for the notes or facts recorded in student sketchbooks every Friday concerning the Artist Spotlight. Each Friday, the class studies an artist of historical record and documents several facts about the artist. We either watch a documentary where students are required to take notes, or discuss an artist with several pictures and written facts displayed to be copied into sketchbook. All notes and facts must be written down into sketchbook with proper title to receive full credit for the weekly Artist Spotlight grade.
If a student is absent it is their responsibility to get this information from the teachers sketchbook or another student's book within the time allotted.
