NHS students advance to Skills USA State Leadership & Skills Conference

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. It was formerly known as VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).  SkillsUSA is made up of over 13,000 school chapters with 300,000 students and instructors competing annually.

Navasota is a part of the Texas District 7 in SkillsUSA, now one of the largest Districts in Texas, with over 1600 kids competing in a variety of job skill related competitions over the 3 day event.

Though Navasota was one of the smallest schools competing, with a large majority being 4A or 5A schools, Navasota students from every group advanced to state, with a total of 12 students going to State.

State advancers in Audio/Visual Group Project Submission were: Fernando Baeza & Salomon Corona, Marquez Byrd & Saul Coronilla, and Grace Mock & Diego Regalado, and in Audio/Visual Individual Project Submission advancers were Alec Chilton, Martin Corona, and Austin Espinoza.  In the Photography Competition Karin Padron placed 4th, in the Computer Programming Competition Joshua Seymore placed 4th, and in the Medical Math Competition Irais Castellon placed 2nd overall.

These students will compete in the Texas SkillsUSA State meet in Corpus Christi on March 27th-29th.
